Project overview
There is an urgent need to address homelessness and encampments in Squamish. BC Housing, the District of Squamish and local partners are working together on both short- and long-term strategies.
HEARTH: temporary transitional housing with supports
In February 2026, the Province chose the District of Squamish as a Phase 2 HEART & HEARTH community. Through this program, we build and offer housing quickly to people experiencing homelessness. This temporary housing remains in place while we build more permanent supportive homes. (See: 39900 Government Road.)
BC Housing is working with the District of Squamish to identify a site for temporary transitional housing. We are considering both District-owned and non-District-owned sites. No site has been confirmed.
In Spring 2026, BC Housing and the District of Squamish reviewed 37956 Loggers Lane (Xwu’nekw Park) as a potential housing site. Our review found some site viability issues. We are no longer considering this location.
We aim to open this much-needed housing in Squamish by winter 2027/28.
For more information about this housing, please see our Community FAQ.
Temporary transitional housing with supports provides safe, stable housing. Residents are adults (19+) from the local area who are at risk of experiencing homelessness. This can include seniors and people with disabilities.
All residents apply to live in his housing, sign program agreements and pay rent.
BC Housing and local partners use a community-based process to offer this housing to people. This process considers people’s individual needs and supports available. It helps ensure residents are set up for success and more likely to remain housed.
We frequently offer his housing to people who have been staying in shelters long-term and waiting to access a permanent home. Others may be currently experiencing unsheltered homelessness in the community.
Typical supports include:
- 24/7 onsite staff support
- Daily meals
- Access to life-skills training
- Social and recreational programming
- Connections to community and wellness supports
- Access to permanent housing when available
BC Housing would select an experienced non-profit housing operator to manage the building and provide services to the residents.
We commit to being good neighbours. We will share updates about this project as soon as they are available.

After we confirm a site for this temporary transitional housing project, we will reach out to area neighbours directly with accurate, accessible information. We will also update this project webpage.
BC Housing and the District of Squamish will arrange opportunities for neighbours and community members to meet our project team. We will welcome questions and discussion about how to best promote successful inclusion of the housing into the community and incorporate feedback where possible.
