Project overview

There is an urgent need to address homelessness and encampments in Squamish. BC Housing, the District of Squamish and local partners are working together on both short- and long-term strategies.

HEARTH: temporary transitional housing with supports

In February 2026, the Province chose the District of Squamish as a Phase 2 HEART & HEARTH community. Through this program, we build and offer housing quickly to people experiencing homelessness. This temporary housing remains in place while we build more permanent supportive homes. (See: 39900 Government Road.)

BC Housing is working with the District of Squamish to identify a site for temporary transitional housing. We are considering both District-owned and non-District-owned sites. No site has been confirmed.

In Spring 2026, BC Housing and the District of Squamish reviewed 37956 Loggers Lane (Xwu’nekw Park) as a potential housing site. Our review found some site viability issues. We are no longer considering this location.

We aim to open this much-needed housing in Squamish by winter 2027/28.

For more information about this housing, please see our Community FAQ.
