TOFINO– Everyone in Canada deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear that affordable housing is key to Canada’s recovery, including in communities such as Tofino.

NORTH VANCOUVER - New homes are now available for 85 low- to middle-income families, seniors and individuals in North Vancouver as a new rental apartment building opens.

PRINCE GEORGE - Indigenous Elders, families and individuals have begun moving into 50 new affordable homes with the opening of a rental housing development in Prince George.

KELOWNA - People experiencing homelessness in Kelowna will continue to have access to safe, warm beds with the extension of leases on the Richter Street and Doyle Avenue shelters.

VANCOUVER - People in Vancouver will soon have access to 337 affordable homes, with construction underway on a new development in the East Fraser Lands River District.

BURNABY - Individuals, families and people living with disabilities have access to 125 new affordable rental homes with the opening of the Paul McDonell Residence in Burnaby.

VANCOUVER - Residents of six buildings will soon benefit from renovations that will make homes safer, more energy-efficient, less polluting and more resilient to extreme weather.

NANAIMO - People will soon begin moving into Samaritan Place, providing safe and secure homes for people experiencing homelessness in Nanaimo.

VICTORIA - A first-of-its-kind report on homelessness will give better information to help target provincial programs and services to improve supports for people experiencing homelessness and help prevent people from becoming homeless.

COMOX - The Province, the Town of Comox and M'akola Housing Society have secured six below-market rental homes for people with low and moderate incomes.

KAMLOOPS - Young adults who have experienced housing instability and are pursuing post- secondary education in social work or community services now have access to a new bursary named in honour of Katherine McParland.

PORT ALBERNI – In November 2020, BC Housing secured a third-party contractor to conduct an independent review of operational concerns about the Port Alberni Shelter Society’s management of two shelters, as well as their supportive housing site in the community. Since the review completed in March 2021, BC Housing has been working with the Port Alberni Shelter Society, its Board of Directors, and our partners to implement 21 actions that resulted from the review’s recommendations.

NORTH VANCOUVER - People in the District of North Vancouver will have more affordable housing options, with construction underway on a new 90-unit development.

CAMPBELL RIVER - Women and children leaving violence will soon have more safe and secure housing options in Campbell River as construction begins on a new 55-unit women's housing project.

CHILLIWACK – Every Canadian deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Affordable housing is key to Canada’s pandemic recovery, especially for communities across the country, including in Chilliwack.

VICTORIA - Middle-income homebuyers have the opportunity to purchase more than 100 affordable new homes in Victoria, thanks to an innovative partnership between the Province, through BC Housing, and Chard Development.

WET’SUWET’EN NATION – A third-party report commissioned by BC Housing to review the management practices of Smithers Community Services Association (SCSA) at Goodacre Place is now complete. The review was conducted starting in April 2021, following allegations that the deaths of six Indigenous residents were related to inadequate culturally appropriate programming at Goodacre Place supportive housing complex.

NEW WESTMINSTER - An innovative housing partnership is getting underway as site preparation begins on a 96-unit affordable housing development for Black and Indigenous families, Elders and individuals in New Westminster.

VANCOUVER - The Province, in partnership with the City of Vancouver and the federal government, is beginning consultation with neighbours and the surrounding community on a proposal for two new permanent supportive housing developments in Vancouver.

BURNABY - A redevelopment project is underway in Burnaby to create 61 new affordable rental homes for low- and moderate-income families, seniors and people living with developmental disabilities.

KAMLOOPS - Merit Place shelter is open in Kamloops, providing 50 additional safe, warm beds for people experiencing homelessness.

ABBOTSFORD - The Province, through BC Housing, and the City of Abbotsford have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) formalizing their commitment to work together to develop new supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness in the community.

NANAIMO - Work is underway on new rental housing in Nanaimo that will provide 62 affordable homes for moderate- and low-income seniors and people living with disabilities.

MAPLE RIDGE - Families and individuals are moving into 64 new rental homes recently purchased by the Province to provide more rental housing for people in Maple Ridge.

KAMLOOPS - Seniors with low to moderate incomes in Kamloops started moving into 37 new affordable homes on Feb. 1, 2022, with the opening of a newly built rental housing development.

BURNABY - The Province, through BC Housing, is partnering with the Chalmers Foundation to finance a seniors' rental complex in Burnaby, preserving 138 units of affordable rental housing for seniors.

N’QUATQUA - N’Quatqua Nation Elders, families and members will soon have access to 10 new affordable rental homes as construction gets underway on a new housing project in N’Quatqua.

KELOWNA - Construction is underway on 122 affordable, energy-efficient rental homes in the final building of the National Society of Hope's Apple Valley development in Kelowna.

COMOX - Seniors and people living with disabilities will soon have access to more than 50 new affordable rental homes in Comox, with construction underway on a three-storey apartment building.
