VANCOUVER - Families and individuals with middle incomes in Vancouver will soon have access to 48 new rental homes, as construction has started on a new apartment project.

Seniors and families with low to moderate incomes in Valemount are settling into their new affordable rental homes as construction has been completed on a new 13-unit apartment building.

BURNABY - BC Housing will be requiring all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by January 10, 2022. This will apply to all BC Housing staff, contractors, co-op students, volunteers, auxiliary and temporary staff. Processes will be developed to determine vaccination status in each of these cases.

COQUITLAM - Construction is underway on a new rental housing project that will replace the aging Hoy Creek Housing Co-operative homes in Coquitlam.

OKANAGAN INDIAN BAND RESERVE –A new housing development will support Okanagan Indian Band members to stay or return to their home community, as construction begins on 16 affordable, on-reserve rental homes.

QUADRA ISLAND - Seniors living on Quadra Island now have more affordable and accessible rental home options to choose from with the opening of a new independent-living apartment building in the community.

KAMLOOPS - The Province, through BC Housing, is exploring opportunities to replace the aging housing units at the Glenfair seniors complex in Kamloopswith newer high-quality affordable homes.

PRINCE GEORGE - The Province, through BC Housing, is leasing the Knights Inn in Prince George to provide 44 supportive homes.

VICTORIA - More than 150 new homes, as well as 36 new child care spaces, are on the way for people in Victoria, with construction underway on a new mixed-use housing development.

VICTORIA - BC Housing and Island Health, in partnership with the City of Victoria and non-profit operators, are taking measures to support people experiencing homelessness in Victoria who are at risk from COVID-19.

VICTORIA - Construction is getting underway on a new housing development designed for Indigenous Peoples in the workforce on the Tsawout First Nation in Central Saanich.

KAMLOOPS - The Province is partnering with A Way Home Kamloops and a local developer on a proposal to deliver 39 new homes for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness in the community.

NELSON - A new apartment building with 39 new one-bedroom rental units designed to be affordable for members of the local workforce, is now open in Nelson.

NANAIMO - Construction is underway on a new development that will provide 180 market rental homes designed to be affordable for middle-income households in Nanaimo.

ABBOTSFORD - The Province, through BC Housing, has secured affordable housing for the Many Ways Home Housing Society residents who were facing eviction in Abbotsford.

VANCOUVER - The Province (through BC Housing), the City of Vancouver and Holborn Properties have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at accelerating construction of social housing at the Little Mountain redevelopment in Vancouver.

VANCOUVER - Nearly 100 people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Vancouver are moving into new safe and secure homes, as the doors open on new supportive homes.

KELOWNA - Forty new affordable rental homes are now available for people with low to moderate incomes in Kelowna, with the opening of a new affordable housing development.

SURREY -The doors of a new supportive housing building in Surrey are open, providing more than 60 safe and secure homes for people in the community experiencing, or at-risk of, homelessness.

MISSION - The Province, through BC Housing, is teaming up with the City of Mission and Mission Community Services Society (MCSS) to develop approximately 50 new supportive homes for people experiencing homelessness in the community.

CLEARWATER - Seniors in Clearwater will soon have access to 20 affordable rental homes that will allow them to live independently and stay connected to their community, as construction begins on a new housing development.

LANGLEY - Seniors with low to moderate incomes and people with disabilities in Langley will soon have access to more than 100 new affordable homes as construction begins on a redevelopment project in the community.

COQUITLAM - A partnership between the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation, the Province and the Government of Canada is paving the way for a new 14-unit housing project for members of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation.

MAPLE RIDGE - Vulnerable youth in need of support in Maple Ridge will soon have access to 20 new safe and affordable homes, thanks to new funding from the Province.

VERNON - People experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Vernon will soon have access to 52 safe and secure homes as construction begins on a new supportive housing project in the community.

SAANICH - Every Canadian deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the need for affordable housing and led to rising levels of homelessness. The Government of Canada created a national strategy to build hundreds of thousands of units and provide affordable housing to people across the country. By continuing to make investments in affordable housing, the government is building stronger communities, creating jobs, and growing our middle class, while fighting homelessness and helping vulnerable Canadians.

VANCOUVER–Today, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, on behalf of theHonourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, and the Honourable Hedy Fry, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Centre, announced $45.8 millionin federal government funding for the 58 West Hastings project, a 10-storey, 231 unit social housing development in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Additionally, the Honourable David Eby, Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Housing, announced that BC Housing has contributed $33.6 million in funding support for the project, as well as an annual operating subsidy.

POWELL RIVER - Construction has started on a new housing development with 24 affordable rental homes for families and seniors with low to moderate incomes in Powell River.

SURREY - Forty people in need of a safe and secure home with supports have a place to call home, with a new supportive housing building opening in Surrey.

COQUITLAM - Every Canadian deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Thanks to investments made by the Government of Canada and partners, residents of Coquitlam will now have access to more stable rental housing options.
